Project Description

Viewer locating herself/himself in the present moment while surrounded by  traces of information from another time and space passing through filter-like screens, has been explored in this installation

Details

In Framing Distance, the video is projected on 3 hand cut-out panels. The cut-out panels inspired by the ‘jali’ patterns create a mesh like screen. The video has been created by using world news footage, digitally recaptured, and then edited on a editing software. The shadows created by the video projection on the three mesh-like patterned screens seek to create a fragmented spatial experience for the viewer. As the light of the video projection of found news footage falls on the three cut-out patterned panels, the distance between the screens and the negative and positive space of the cut-out screen distorts the video projection. The distortion is such, that within the space, the viewer only experiences this optical disorientation of shifting forms, light, and shadows. Viewer locating herself/himself in the present moment while surrounded by  traces of information from another time and space passing through filter-like screens, has been explored in this installation
