Project Description

This installation was created using archival material about art and artists shared by the daily newsprint paper, Time Of India, for the ‘The Art of India festival’ 2022 Read More

Using Times of India new articles dated back to as far as the 1930’s, this art installation pays homage to the history of Indian art and artists as witnessed through ‘Times of India’ new archives, the one of the largest news publications of India. Delicately patterned web-like forms cut-out over news archival material, I think of my cut-out dream catcher as a framing device suggesting renewed perspectives. The light illuminating the cut-out circular panel, creates a magnificent patterned shadow on the walls. This projection of the artwork extending its physical boundary to the surrounding space with its shadows is Zoya’s attempt as an new artist to mould or shape the media material to create an visual echo that extends beyond the art object, like a whispered wish

Zoya’s cut out work’s and its reflections allude to the richly embellished historical buildings and public spaces in India where the artist spent most of her growing up years.
